It is all about the document!

What is a document? It is a record of a transaction, whether it is of legal consequence or not. When someone doubts your word, you can continue to talk or you can produce the document that substantiates your opinion.

The document preserves information in a format that can be referenced at the appropriate time to prove a point. If we have extracted data from a document and entered the data into a database we still need the document to prove the point in the event that there is a dis-agreement: after all the data in the computer was extracted from a document, many times through an imperfect (human) method.

The document not only provides proof but it also provides context and thus it must be preserved for a prescribed retention period to meet the legal requirements of various interested parties.

Shouldn't we be more concerned about the efficient management of documents and if that is true, why do so many still want to keep their documents stored on the most volatile medium available today, Paper?
